Kharchu Monastery Bhutan

Kharchu Monastery Bhutan

His Eminence founded the monastic seat of Lhodrak Kharchu in 1982. After seeking approval from the Royal Government of Bhutan to build a new monastery, His Eminence established Namse Phodrang Monastery, commonly known as Khandro Sanglam, along with the monks' quarters at the forefront of Chamkhar town in Bumthang, initiating a new Sangha community. His Eminence adhered to the Practice of Rigdzin Gyüpa, the dharma lineage of the previous incarnations.
In 1994, with the generous support of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Eminence established a new Study Centre (bshad pa’i sde), providing an opportunity for studying textual systems such as Sutra and Mantra, as well as traditional arts and sciences. Furthermore, following Vasubandhu's assertion that "Practicing discipline and having listened to and contemplated the teachings, one engages deeply in meditation," His Eminence established a new Practice Centre (sgrub pa’i sde) in 1996, providing a dedicated space for diligent practice (meditation).
In summary, this monastic college offers education and training in various disciplines, including Rigdzin Phyagzhe (Practice of Rigdzin Gyüpa), Sutra and Mantra studies, traditional arts and sciences, as well as meditation practice. Currently, it accommodates over 700 monks. Furthermore, His Eminence established subsidiary monasteries in various regions of the country and dharma centres in numerous overseas locations. Through these endeavours, he continues to promote both the general and specific teachings of Buddha. This ongoing effort exemplifies the Buddha activity of the dharma holder of Kharchu, namely His Eminence.
The Kharchu Centre Incorporated Australia is made up of voluntary members with interests that align with the intent of the KCA. The members are located in most of the major cities across Australia.
