Kharchu Centre Australia

The Kharchu Centre, a dharma centre formally established in 2016 after completing registration with the government (of Australia), had its auspicious foundation laid back in 1998 by Kyabje Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche, the seat-holder of Kharchu, during his inaugural visit to Australia. Subsequent visits by His Eminence in 2010 and 2013 saw earnest requests from his benefactors, students, and devoted followers to establish a dharma centre for the benefit of Buddha's teachings and sentient beings. Recognizing the potential to spread Buddha's teachings in Australia's vast and diverse landscape, characterized by its harmonious multicultural society comprising people from various parts of the world, His Eminence agreed to the proposal. He then appointed approximately eight task force members and assumed full responsibility for the purpose of the dharma centre.
Over 200 individuals have since become general members of the dharma centre, offering continuous financial support and backing, ensuring the smooth functioning of its administration. Starting in 2023, disciples and benefactors urged His Eminence to send one or two Khenpos and/or Lopons (Preceptors and Masters) to reside regularly. In response to this request, His Eminence appointed a Khenpo from the home monastery to each of the different regions, where these Khenpos have been actively engaging in various dharma activities within the community and society. Presently, a dharma centre of Kharchu is established in a location formerly known as Virupa, situated in close proximity to Canberra, which is over 30 kilometres away. Similarly, separate dharma centres have also been established in the cities of Brisbane and Perth.
The Kharchu Centre Incorporated Australia is made up of voluntary members with interests that align with the intent of the KCA. The members are located in most of the major cities across Australia.
